A Gothic masterpiece, the novel tells the story of the orphaned Jane, her neglected childhood and her subsequent employment at Thornfield Hall as a governess to the ward of the brooding Mr Rochester. Her chance of love and happiness is dramatically snatched away as the terrible secrets of the Hall are revealed and she is forced to make a choice.
