Priestley’s classic Yorkshire comedy finds three smug, long-married couples in a bit of a scandal. Are they “respectable” or aren’t they? And what might happen if they aren’t? What if the local press gets to hear? Add in a drunken photographer, a rebellious cook as well as the sudden appearance of somebody’s “bit on the side” and their anniversary atmosphere of port, plush and prosperity descends into comic collapse.
